ANIMAL-AIDED DESIGN SCHUMACHER QUARTIER BERLIN<\/span><\/h1><\/h1><\/div>

When the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport BER will finally open its gates at the end of 2020, the famous city airport Berlin-Tegel (TXL) will be closed and redeveloped. More than 5000 flats will be built in the newly planned Schumacher Quartier. This new quarter is supposed be a frontrunner for sustainable developments and social cohesion. The open space of Tegel airport has in the last 70 years developed into a hotspot of biodiversity due to its proximity to nearby forests (Jungfernheide, Tegeler Forst) and lakes (Tegeler See, Flughafensee) and to the nutrient-poor, dry and short vegetation on sandy soil that developed next to the runways. Bgmr Landschaftsarchitekten, Studio Animal-Aided Design and Polinna Hauck GbR were commissioned by Tegel Projekt GmbH to develop tools and guidelines of integrating the needs of wild animals into the new developments, using the Animal-Aided Design method.<\/p>\n
