In the edited volume Planen. Entwerfen. Umsetzen. Geschichten des Gelingens zur Urbanen Transformation, published by transcript Verlag (2026) and edited by Johanna Schoppengerd and Henrik Schultz, Susann Ahn, Thomas E. Hauck, and Christine Jakoby present the development and implementation of the Nisthocker in Munich-Neuperlach.

Drawing on the EU-funded research project Creating NEBourhoods Together, the chapter explores how co-creative prototyping can enable new forms of coexistence between humans, animals, and plants in urban spaces. The Nisthocker combines spaces for people to gather and relax with habitats for animals and plants, demonstrating the potential of Animal-Aided Design in experimental, collaborative planning and construction processes.
