COMPETITION ENTRY
ZUKUNFTSORT DRANSDORFER BERG
Studio Animal-Aided Design participated in the urban and open-space planning competition Zukunftsort Dransdorfer Berg together with OLA – Office for Landscape Architecture. The proposal aimed to develop a socio-ecological neighborhood on the site of the former municipal nursery, understanding the city as a shared habitat for humans, animals, and plants.
The design focused on preserving and carefully evolving the existing urban wilderness while creating a high degree of spatial and ecological diversity. Using Animal-Aided Design, habitat qualities for selected animal species were deliberately integrated into open spaces and building structures. The concept was further complemented by approaches from building-integrated vegetation and baubotanik, a low-car mobility strategy, and a comprehensive sponge city approach for climate and water adaptation.
Although the proposal was not selected for implementation, the competition entry provided valuable impulses for linking biodiversity, community-oriented living, and future-oriented urban development.
